This was our first attempt at decorating a cake for anyone. It turned out really well. The base is Devils food cake and the whip cream was real whip cream with a touch of vanilla and a little bit of sugar. The chocolate frosting was made of whip cream and Ghirardellis semi sweet chips. Very very good. The 2 yr old loved it.
We searched far and wide for basketball cake toppers by Wilton. We almost had to travel to Mississauga to get them from Golda's Kitchen but after accepting defeat and buying soccer toppers I decided to check the Wilton site to see who else had it... Luckily, there was a little place called "Kate's Cakes" that had it! I was so excited I rushed to pick them up.
Lulu started on making the pennants for the cupcakes (see the picture)... I found out that a custom cake for 30 people costs $75 CDN. I was shocked ...I should totally go into making cakes. Mind you I am not sure if I can pull this off. We shall see after I make Zander's cake.
It's been an exciting summer. There have been outings and visits. We've traveled and we've worked on getting things ready for the coming sales season. Really we've been procrastinating; focusing on family matters and getting the house set up for a wide variety of things: parties, playdates, and of course and arrival of baby #2.
Recently, Lulu came up with an interesting idea. While we were in Chicago, we didn't have that many toys to play with. We ended up placing hand towels on the floor and pretending that they are hop-scotch tiles. The boy loved it. For the past 2 days Lulu has been making numbers fabric tiles to pay hop-scotch. We will post when its done. They are very cute and made from reclaimed material.
We are also planning to make Zander's Birthday cake with a basketball theme...I am excited.
Off to craft...
