We are currently running a sock monkey drive and it seems to be working! We've had more online sales that ever before. I am very excited. We also discovered that we cannot ship products for Christmas (meaning: any parcel sent in the mail today will not get to the city by Xmas) outside of Toronto. This Friday the 16th is the deadline.
As for the shows this year: Not great. There were a number of 1st-time-ever craft shows that just couldn't bring in the traffic. Very limited turn outs. 3 duds. Oh well, such is life in the world of crafting. I think that Canadians need to increase their appreciation for handmade crafts... like in the US. Mind you I think that the sheer number difference in population has a direct effect... I am ranting. I am looking forward to having a break from crafting. One of our great friends got a walker from us for their son. We tried it first in San Fran with Z and he totally loved it. From wobbly legs to quick steps Z started to try to walk without my help. It was one of the reasons we fell in love with Plan Toy products and not to mention the eco aspect. Here is what our friends wrote:
"Hey guys! I'm enjoying reading your blog. Thank you so much for recommending the wooden walker for David from Plan Toys. It was the only walker he ended up using (as the others were too low, too fast, etc.). I loved how this one can adjust the height, tension and it even has front bumpers so he 'crashed' more gently! Thanks to this walker, David gained a lot of much needed practice (and motivation) to walk. He's now walking, yeah! Definitely one of our favourite toys and extremely well made. We look forward to using it longer, now that he can move onto playing with the blocks! Love your blog and website btw. I am enjoying following it." - Irene So, I don't know if you've looked yet, our site has a new page. It's Build-A-Sock-Monkey and Lulu and I are very excited. I am hoping that people will contact us for custom jobs. We love making a monkey that someone specifically wants. It's strange. There is a different reaction from us when someone comes and "adopts" a monkey at a show vs. when then order one custom made. It's almost as if the monkey has a soul. We envision what the monkey will look like while its being made. I know that it sounds weird but it feels like that. So far, there has been a lot of traffic to the site but no buyers. It's not really the season for it. We were hoping for some orders for Valentines but our busy schedules prevented us from picking up socks that are good quality and Valentinesy themed. |
