With 9 days waiting, we are anticipating the arrival of our 2nd baby - a girl. This is going to be a busy time for us - sewing, designing and creating. With a toddler and a newborn at hand, I am sure that there will be challenges. We are looking forward to the many exciting things that are in store for the lulu & mika family.

Typed a whole page in the blog. Uploaded a picture... all lost. Here are the new sock monkeys we made because we got back into the swing of things and my very pregnant wife got inspired to work on the business.
This was our first attempt at decorating a cake for anyone. It turned out really well. The base is Devils food cake and the whip cream was real whip cream with a touch of vanilla and a little bit of sugar. The chocolate frosting was made of whip cream and Ghirardellis semi sweet chips. Very very good. The 2 yr old loved it.
We searched far and wide for basketball cake toppers by Wilton. We almost had to travel to Mississauga to get them from Golda's Kitchen but after accepting defeat and buying soccer toppers I decided to check the Wilton site to see who else had it... Luckily, there was a little place called "Kate's Cakes" that had it! I was so excited I rushed to pick them up.
Lulu started on making the pennants for the cupcakes (see the picture)... I found out that a custom cake for 30 people costs $75 CDN. I was shocked ...I should totally go into making cakes. Mind you I am not sure if I can pull this off. We shall see after I make Zander's cake. It's been an exciting summer. There have been outings and visits. We've traveled and we've worked on getting things ready for the coming sales season. Really we've been procrastinating; focusing on family matters and getting the house set up for a wide variety of things: parties, playdates, and of course and arrival of baby #2.
Recently, Lulu came up with an interesting idea. While we were in Chicago, we didn't have that many toys to play with. We ended up placing hand towels on the floor and pretending that they are hop-scotch tiles. The boy loved it. For the past 2 days Lulu has been making numbers fabric tiles to pay hop-scotch. We will post when its done. They are very cute and made from reclaimed material. We are also planning to make Zander's Birthday cake with a basketball theme...I am excited. Off to craft... During my time off, one of the goals I have been meaning to accomplish is redoing the craft room. I have been digging around Ikea for the longest time, searching out for anything I can use. The best find so far were the base cabinets "akurum". I've bought so far 7 of them each costing around $28 dollars. Then, this week at our local Ikea, they've been selling off the Solar doors and covers for the kitchen set. Saving $700 is always nice. Now, I just need to configure the layout to take advantage of the ar
Well, with every milestone there comes a whole new set of challenges. Keeping up with the boy is a challenge. Have we had time or interest in making things for the business? Nope. And to top things off, Lulu is preggers so energy level is low. I will try to keep the blog more updated.
We had our show today. Not a successful one but it was great for networking. There were a number of vendors that were a lot of fun to talk to. In the end, shows that are not financially successful may hurt, they are always great for conversations with people of like mind. Next to our table was an aspiring artist. 23 and full of enthusiasm and very talented. She was selling her paints for next to nothing. Funny thing was, so many people just talked to her but didn't buy her paintings. On the other side of us was a lady who worked with towels and made hooded bath wraps. Very nice work.
Overall, we drove off feeling okay. So, Thursday after work, we decided to zip off to Ikea to buy a small couch for the boy. It turned out to come in a good sized box. The end result was that we got a couch and a playhouse for the little one. Check out the shots. One of the most frustrating things about computers are their random behaviour. I typed for a half an hour and lost all the things I wrote due to a sudden browser error. Very irritating. I've come back to write again what I think I wrote... Honestly, I haven't the slightest idea what I was writing about.
Here are some updates to what's been going on: 1. Z is sleeping extremely well and we are recovering 18 months of sleep, 2. We have a show coming up next weekend at the Tranzac Club, 3. Finally back on the crafting wagon. Here is one of the new items we've made. It's an apron that can be worn by either boy or girl. Z has a black and yellow one. It's reversible and we can make a matching one for mom or dad. (It's chocolate brown on the back with the floral print as the pocket.) We are hoping to make a bunch of stuff for the show this weekend but we are not sure if we have the time. We shall see. |
